Job posting

Lead Hardware Engineer

One of our US-based offices - Bay Area / Detroit / DC

Cavnue is building hardware solutions that earn the trust of travelers. This means building a complex network of persistent sensors that keep people up to date and informed so they can safely and reliably get to their destination. We’re looking for engineers who have spent time with soldering irons and systems-on-chips and who think about how to get every device on a network to exchange meaningful data in small payloads. If you know the difference between a hypervisor and hyperscale and have experience figuring out how to angle a sensor so you get a perspective on the road that your colleagues in perception engineering will see as just-right, we want you to come join our team.

  • Developing and managing Cavnue’s pipeline of hardware products, in support of Cavnue’s mission to build the future of roads.

  • Translating high-level product requirements into physical hardware, including component selection, system integration, functional schematics, and CAD software design.

  • Rapid prototyping and assessing of Cavnue’s core hardware products, including managing any third-party firms involved in such developments.

  • Identifying, implementing, and executing product improvements iteratively across hardware platforms

  • Working closely with internal product, software engineering, and data science teams to ensure that the right data is being gathered from Cavnue’s sensor products.

  • Sourcing the right third party suppliers and working with third-party partners to develop new products, ensuring these are built to spec and quality standards. The perfect candidate will be able to make decisions relating to build versus buy for individual components with a bias toward integrating off-the-shelf components where they meet specs.

  • Designing and building products that satisfy requirements relating to reliability, maintainability, durability, testability, and usability.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.

  • ~10+ years of experience in autonomous vehicle, automotive, intelligent traffic systems, or related field.

  • Expertise in rapid prototyping and evaluation, bench testing to validate components, and building products from zero to one in a scrappy environment

  • Experience with a variety of sensor systems, including cameras, radar & LiDAR, microcontrollers, and development platforms.

  • Expert knowledge of wireless networking technologies.

  • Experience leading critical design review activities for program success.

  • Experience developing robust products for harsh environments is a plus.

  • Deep knowledge of L2+ autonomous vehicle hardware is a plus.

  • Experience interfacing with hardware manufacturers and supporting production is a plus.
